AUDIENCE OF ONE
Genesis 25:27-34; 27:1-10
From the sermon “Stolen Blessings: Seeking the Blessing”
I recall an experience Dr Chris Gnanakan, our camp speaker, shared with us. He was in a football team playing in the finals of a tournament. The game was in the final minutes and the teams were even with a goal each. They needed to score to win.
Chris took the ball and ran the length of the field. As he approached the goal mouth, he passed the ball to the striker who slammed it in for a goal. The crowd went wild. Chris meanwhile had fallen on the ground after delivering the ball. From where he lay he saw the players crowd round the striker, congratulating him. No one paid any attention to him.
He thought, “Hey, what about me? I set up the goal!” Then, through the players, he saw his coach sitting at the far end of the field. The coach stood up, caught his eyes, and gave Chris the thumbs-up sign. Chris said, “That was enough. It does not matter what the others say or do. As long as the coach says, ‘Well done,’ that’s good enough for me.”
May this be our attitude as we look for blessing in life—let us find it in the Lord saying to us, “Well done!”
Remember you are in God’s sight joint-heirs with Christ, and blessed beyond measure. Value your birthright as a child of God, and seek the blessing of God’s favour. As long as we know we live under God’s favour, it does not matter what people give or withhold from us.
