SERMON STORIES: LAUGH & LEARN
#9: DIRECTION IS EVERYTHING
A young man in a village heard a war has broken out at the northern border. He took his sword, got on his horse, and told his father, “War has broken out at the northern border, and I am going to fight and win it for our country.”
His father asked, “How can you be so sure?” The young man said, “My heart is brave, my sword is sharp, and my horse is fast.” He raced off.
At a narrow mountain pass, an elderly man stood and stopped the young man. “Where are you going in such a hurry?” he asked. The young man replied, “War has broken out at the northern border, and I am going to fight and win it for our country.”
The old man asked, “How can you be so sure?” The young man said, “My heart is brave, my sword is sharp, and my horse is fast.” The old man replied, “Young man, your brave heart and sharp sword are of no use, neither your fast horse.”
“How so?” asked the young man. The old man replied, “The war is in the north, and you are heading towards the south.”
Direction is everything in this case, and often in the situations of life. It does not matter how brave, how sharp and how fast we are. It depends on whether we are heading in the right direction. At times, the wrong direction can lead to disaster.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.”
Proverbs 14:12 ESV
