SERMON STORIES: LAUGH & LEARN
#1: HEARING PROBLEM
A man was worried that his wife was losing her hearing. He consulted a doctor. “How bad is your wife’s hearing?” the doctor asked. “I don’t know,” the man said.
The doctor said, “When you go home today, stand at the door and call to her, and see if she can hear you. If not, go to the room where she is, stand outside and call to her. If she still can’t hear you, go behind her and call to her. That way, we will know how bad her hearing is.”
The man went home, opened the door and called, “Darling, is dinner ready?” Nothing. He went to the room where she was, stood outside and called again, “Darling, is dinner ready?” Still nothing.
He tiptoed quietly into the room and stood behind her. “Darling, is dinner ready?” he shouted in her ears. The wife stood up, and shouted back, “For the third time, Yes!”
So who was deaf? Sometimes we think the problem is with the other person, when it is a problem with us.
“Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? …You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.” Matthew 7:3-5 ESV
