SERMON STORIES: LAUGH & LEARN
#9: NO POCKETS
A pastor left in a hurry to conduct a service at the funeral parlour. In his rush, he forgot his coat. The manager lent him a brand new coat, and the pastor conducted the service.
He had a habit of putting his hands in the coat pockets when he spoke. To his surprise, he found that the coat had no pockets. As he returned the coat to the manager, he said, “You need to tell your tailor that he forgot to sew pockets to the coat.”
The manager smiled and said, “That is a coat we put on the dead in the casket. Where they are going, they don’t need pockets.”
When we depart from this world, we leave everything behind. We take nothing with us. This stark reality should remind us to hold all our possessions lightly, because one day we have to let go of them all.
“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.” 1 Timothy 6:6–7 ESV
