SERMON STORIES: LAUGH & LEARN
#20: NUMBER ELEVEN
A man boarded a plane on a business trip. He noticed his seat was 11. When the plane landed, he exited at Gate 11. He got into a taxi and saw on the number plate, 11.
When he arrived at the hotel, he was given a room on the eleventh floor. “There must be something on all this,” he thought.
The city he was in was well-known for its horse races. So he left immediately for the racing track. There he put all the money he had on horse number 11.
With great excitement, he watched his horse run, thinking of all the winnings and what he was going to do with the money.
The horse came in eleventh.
The gambling streak surfaces from time to time in all of us. The desire to “strike it rich” compels us, and especially habitual gamblers, to bet on their luck, often bolstered by superstition and random numbers. But winning is often an illusion and losing the harsh reality.
“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.” 1 Timothy 6:10 ESV
