SERMON STORIES: LAUGH & LEARN
#13: PARKED AND SAFE
A businessman was driving to the airport for his business trip. He stopped by a bank on the way. “Could I take a loan from your bank?” he asked the bank manager.
The manager asked if he could provide a guarantee. The businessman showed him his car parked outside, a brand new Mercedes, the latest model. “That’s good enough,” the manager said and gave him the loan.
Two weeks later, the businessman visited the bank. “I have come to return the loan.” The manager was puzzled. “When you left, we did a check on you. We found out that you are very wealthy. Why do you need the loan?”
“You see,” the businessman explained, “I was driving my new car to the airport, and wondering, ‘Where can I park it where it will be safe and guarded day and night for two weeks?’”
The people of the world are smart with their money and worldly possessions. Sometimes, they put God’s people to shame. Jesus once told a parable about a shrewd steward. Though what the steward did was questionable, his shrewdness was commended.
“The master commended the dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than the sons of light.” Luke 16:8 ESV
