Memorable Lines from Movies And the Big Story in the Bible
#1 THE NOTEBOOK

Forgotten Story Remembered

Allie, an Alzheimer’s patient, lives in a home. Noah visits her and reads to her. As the narrative unfolds, we learn they are husband and wife but she has lost all memory of him.

But before her memory loss, she has written their love story in a notebook, with instruction for Noah to read it to her.

Noah reads the story, bit by bit, on his regular visits, but Allie listens to it without any recollection. That is, until the crucial part, when it appears that the couple in the story had parted for good.

As it turned out, they came back together again. That is when the light comes back on, and Allie utters the memorable lines, "It's us, isn't it? It's our story."

Noah almost lost Allie to another man when they were younger, and he is determined not to lose her again in their old age, this time to Alzheimer’s.

Based on the book “The Notebook” by Nicholas Sparks (1996), the movie (2004) stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as the young lovers, with James Garner and Gena Rowlands as the elderly couple. A romantic classic, “The Notebook” highlights the importance of memory to love.

Shared memories build the bedrock of love. Take away memory and nothing remains except vacant stares and empty hearts. While we can, let’s make and cherish memories. Revisit your love story and rekindle your love.

Big Story in Bible

The Big Story in the Bible is a love story. God creates us and loves us with all his heart. But we forget and go our own way. In different ways, God reads his love story to us, through nature, music, folklore, but most of all through the Cross.

On the Cross, Christ died to demonstrate God’s love. At some point, we say something like what Allie said, “It’s me, isn’t it? It’s my story.” That’s when the light comes on, and we find God—or rather, God finds us.

God remembers us even when we have lost our memory and lost our way. We may say, “The Lord has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” But God assures us, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you.”Isaiah 49:14-15 ESV
