#36: WHO BELIEVE IN PRAYER?

An atheist bought a piece of land and built a distillery. Soon he was running a roaring business. Beer was freely available and people were drinking and getting drunk.

The local church, concerned for the bad influence of the distillery, met to pray. They prayed for God to do something. One night, a lightning struck the distillery and it burnt to the ground.

The owner, aware of what the church did, sued it for bringing about the distillery’s destruction by their prayers. The church, however, contested the lawsuit, disclaiming responsibility.

The judge hearing the case expressed his bewilderment and asked, “How do we handle such a case? We have an atheist who believes in prayer and a church which does not!”

Indeed, what contradiction between belief and behaviour! For his own purpose, the atheist claims belief in prayer. And for their own protection, the church denies belief in prayer.

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
Mark 11:24 ESV
