#29: WHOSE COOKIES?

A lady felt hungry after checking in at the airport. She bought a bag of cookies and sat down at the departure gate. An elderly gentleman came and sat next to her.

Soon she heard a rustling sound, and saw the man take a cookie and put it in his mouth. Not wanting a create a scene, she ignored him.

Then she heard another rustling sound, and saw the man take another cookie and ate it. She stared at him. He smiled, and said, “Would you like to have one?”

He offered and she took it.

“I’d better eat them before he finished them all,” she thought, as she took one cookie after another until the bag was empty.

Just then, her flight was called. She got up in a huff and made her way to the gate. She opened her handbag to get her boarding pass. Lo and behold, she saw her bag of cookies, untouched and uneaten!

So whose cookies had she been eating? Not hers, definitely! How often do we think God is taking something from us, when we are actually taking something that belongs to God. Even when we offer to God what is ours, it was his in the first place.

“But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able thus to offer willingly? For all things come from you, and of your own have we given you.” 1 Chronicles 29:14 ESV
